How to get job in USA as a foreigner

You dream to travel to US probably to search for job.
When you travel to USA, you obviously have one of the biggest tasks to do in order to get a job. US is an advance country with security conscious, so you don't just walk into an establishment and ask for job. This is how to go about getting job.

Before you start looking for work, you need to have your Social Security Number (SSN) as part of your DV process. But you take note that the process likely do not work out.
So when you get to USA, try to locate the SSA.
You can ask them to check if your application is already in their system.

They will surely ask for your I.D including: passport and birth certificate; that is all they need for a DV winner.

They will send the SSN card to any address you give them.

The type of job do you want? As a new immigrant, you need to be realistic. You might have to accept job offer lower than the one you had in your home country. Just set your mind to starting at a lower position if needed.
You also need to know whether your skills will be immediately useful.

For example, if you are a bricklayer. Most construction in the US is not brick construction, so your skills may not be needed. Some other skills or a trade are subjected to license, meaning you need to obtain license, and this would take time to get.
I advise you obtain a casual job until you can improve.

The type of job you're looking for determines how you job search would be.

These are the three categories of jobs;:

  • Unskilled labor
  • Semi-skilled or skilled labor
  • Professional or Clerical or Managerial

Now, we shall take them one by one

Unskilled labor: These are jobs like washing plates, retail, fast food, casual labor, security guards etc. Jobs like this would normally be easy to obtain, but the salary available will be fairly low.

Semi skilled & skilled: These types of job normally require that you have some sort of skill that has taken training or experience to acquire. The work include construction trades, like electricians, plumbing etc.

Professional or Clerical or Managerial: To secure these types of jobs as an immigrant you will obviously need to have good skills and experience with good qualification or education.
