PHOTOS + VIDEOS: Corps Member teargassed for protesting unpaid INEC allowances in Cross River


An NYSC Corps Member serving in Cross River State has on Thursday, April 4th 2019, suffered an attack from the men of the Nigerian Police.

The unidentified Corps Member was manhandled and teargassed at the INEC, Calabar South area office in Calabar South local government area of Cross River.

The Corps Member was maltreated by the Police while trying to collect his ad-hoc staff allowance for the recent concluded 2019 general elections.

According to a video shared online (SEE ATTACHED BELOW), the Corps Member was seen saying, “… And the next thing he did was to put the teargas in my eyes. The teargas didn’t clear on time and when it cleared, I approached him and said sir ‘I was in a peaceful conversation with you and you poured me teargas, what for’? I am a Corps Member can’t you see?”

He continued, “Immediately, he raised his hand up and wanted to slap me, I blocked it and the next thing he did was that he removed the bullet from his gun and used the gun to smash my back. As I was trying to regain myself from the strike, he removed teargas and poured it directly into my eyes.”

The Corps Member who was explaining in pains lamented that, “I am a Corps Member who have decided to serve his nation. I was working in Lagos – I would’ve decided not to come for the service at all, but I said let me serve my country.
